The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is affectionate, intelligent, sensitive, and loyal. They belong to the sporting group and have a life span of about 10-13 years. Chesapeake Bay Retriever originated in the United States during the 19th century. Tracing their roots back to two Newfoundlands rescued from the sinking “Canton” and then bread with spaniels and hounds for ability, market hunters developed the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Nicknamed the Chessie, they have an insulating and waterproof coat along with many other traits that allow them to retrieve waterfowl in and along the Chesapeake Bay.
