Basset Hound = Low Hound
The Basset Hound is patient, loving, gentle and loyal. They belong to the hound group and have a life span of about 12- 13 years. The breed originated in France and Belgium (“basset” is French for “low”). It is thought that the friars of St. Hubert were responsible for crossing strains of older French breed to create a low-built scenting hound. There nose is second only to the Bloodhound, which made them a popular choice for French aristocrats.
