Akita = Snow Country Dogs
The Akita are dignified, courageous, lively, and faithful. They belong to the working group and live about 10- 13 years. The breed originated in northern Japan. The Akita has two varieties- Japanese strain called Akita Inu and the American strain called American Akita or Akita. Before they were simply called “snow country dogs”. They have webbed toes to help them walk on snow and are designated as a treasure in Japan.
