FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is Pewter?
A: Pewter is a sought after metal alloy manufactured from tin, with a small amount of copper, antimony and other trace metals to provide a strong and lasting piece. It is considered the world's fourth most precious metal, after platinum, gold and silver. It is a timeless item, and in the case of Lindsay Claire, has lasting value in a cast design.

Q: How do I care for my pewter treasure?
A: Pewter does not require polishing or any other special care. Pewter does not rust or tarnish. A periodic cleaning with an all purpose metal polish will keep it looking like new. Do not use silver or brass polish. Pewter polish can be found at many hardware stores or specialty craft stores.

Q: Can I put my pewter in the dishwasher?
A: No, dishwashers are not recommended. The high heat and aggressive detergents used can harm the piece and cause pitting and discolouration of the pewter.

Q: Can I put my pewter in the microwave?
A: No, pewter is a metal and will cause sparking and potentially fire.

Q: What is the history of Pewter?
A: Pewter was the main metal used for tableware until china became very fashionable around the mid 1800's. Early pewter pieces contained different amounts of other elements depending on the use of the pewter piece. While eating and drinking utensils contained 96 to 99% tin, some items not used for eating might have contained up to 15% lead. Today, Pewter eating and drinking utensils are manufactured without lead and a renewed interest is taking hold.
