Beagle = “foothound”
The Beagle friendly, curious, playful and affectionate. They belong to the hound group and have a life span of about 10- 15 years. The breed origins have long been the subject of conjecture. English gentlemen by the 1500s had packs of hounds. The smaller hounds like the beagle were used to track hare. They were easy to keep up with on foot and became very popular with those not wishing or being able to afford larger hounds and mounts to follow them. You may remember the famous beagle “SNOOPY”.
